MEDITATE FOR PEACE
by Dickie Baker (now Dickie Stentz)
(from the June 2006 Interfaith Connection, IW's newsletter)

In April of 2004 a friend and I were walking in Point Defiance Park. We came
upon a meadow. Off in the distance was an elderly man sitting on a park bench
that faced Commencement Bay. At that very instant, everything stopped,
everything stilled--an immense feeling of bliss and Peace came over me--
I couldn’t move.  I heard, “Why not meditate for Peace?"

With that question I envisioned the Capitol Campus filled with people--all
gathered in silence--with one common goal, Peace. It was with this Divine
inspiration that “Community Meditation for Global Peace" was created.

Different faiths and beliefs are all new to me, but they all seem to have common missions. Some of these missions are to better ourselves and to make our Earth a better place now and for future generations.  All faiths seem to have common bonds in prayer and meditation.  Prayer and meditation are powerful tools to manifest powerful changes.  They can be used to change our perception, promote well being and yes, bring Peace.

Prayers, to me, are thanking God for all there is.  And all there is, is a world of all possibilities.
Meditation is visualizing what I wish to manifest and listening for guidance.

With our world so filled with fear and polarized on so many issues and beliefs, we all have choice
--a choice to bring Peace to ourselves and our world.  We can choose to say, "Peace, be still" and envision our Earth a tranquil home.

The event will be non-political and non-denominational, in keeping with the inspiration I received. I openly welcome everyone in the name of Peace.

"With the power of meditation we can collectively send a message of Peace to our neighbor, to our community and around our world."
IN PURSUIT OF PEACE
Community Meditation for Global Peace, founded by Dickie Stentz, has evolved since its inception in 2004.  Now called Community Meditation and Prayer for Global Peace, the 5th annual event will take place August 2 & 3, 2008.

This year, the 24 hours of meditation and prayer will be preceded by a Walking Meditation for Peace which will begin at 11:15 am on Saturday, August 2, at Marathon Park.  The walking meditation will proceed in silence from the park counter-clockwise along Capitol Lake, and up the trail to the Capitol Campus.  Walkers will arrive at Tivoli Fountain in time for the opening of the Community Meditation and Prayer for Global Peace at noon.

Your participation in this event is invited for any amount of time.  Whether or not you do the Walking Meditation, you may come to pray or meditate in silence at any time between noon August 2 and noon August 3.  If you have questions, please call 357-7224 weekday mornings.
